I made a post already but it’s starting to get lost so I wanted to make another with more detail.
I can’t say the brand name, but I will give as much detail as I can.
I want to change my brands logo for a number of reasons, the name however will not change. The main one being that I don’t think it fits the identity of the brand, or the identity that I intend on the brand building and representing. When I first started the brand I didn’t give it an identity other than the name and logo, I didn’t think long term desalt. We didn’t have colors, didn’t have a font, no set aesthetic, it was and has continued to be all over the place. I want to change that now! I want to have a brand identity. But I feel like that needs to start with a new logo that will represent the brand better. My concern is that one of our best sellers is a popular backpack that has our logo on it and stands out quite a bit. Changing future backpacks to the new logo is no issue, but the ones that have already sold and customers have already purchased is what worries me. Will they feel that they are valued less, is that a bad look for the brand to change something already established? Also we have hoodies that so many people wear with our logo, so I suppose I almost just feel bad. But I know a new logo will reflect the brand so much better and help attract our target audience as well.
For a comparison because these brands sweatshirts and logo’d apparel and designs are so common: Imagine if Supreme Changed their logo Imagine if gap changed their logo Imagine if lululemon changed their logo Imagine if Chanel, LV, YSL changed their logo All of the bags, sweatshirts, leggings, tops, etc … that have these logos on them currently… should they stress out about how the people who own these things would feel?
personally i would feel like i am old fan of the brand, like an old friend, and newbies can’t feel this vibe as i can. so do not afraid to change
Have you focused on SEO?
It is so important and often overlooked. I used: riseo.ai for marketing and SEO tools and we now rank on page 1 off google and bring leads daily
No tool can significantly impact your ranking in 15 days for any competitive keyword…your domain was registered on 11/14/23.
Same as sports… when the team changes colors or locations or so on - some fans buy all new stuff - some fans buy up all the old stuff because they don’t like the new stuff, and some just walk away since the old thing they loved no longer exists…
Most “brands” on reddit are not really brands yet, slapping your logo on a backpack and a hoodie isn’t really a “brand” - you’re just reselling common utilities with the minor modification of your logo slapped on - - but it’s a start - - you’re trying to continue on the path - - you’re hoping that the rebranding will accept your sales and your growth - - hopefully that happens for you …
But, you’re on reddit, asking for free advice - which ( probably ) means you’re so small and so new you can’t afford professional analysts/designers/marketing experts ( yet ) - - so you’re out there competing against 7,000 other vendors/sellers/brands/etc
It’s not the logo that makes companies successful, it’s not the font, not the color… it’s advertising, it’s quality, it’s price, it’s service, it’s a unique offering…
Why buy your backpack unless it’s better quality, unique, better price, better service, etc - right?
And how do I ever know about your backpack - unless you spend more on advertising than the other dozens of companies who spend millions on advertising…
It’s a long uphill battle, you’ll always have to work harder, give better service, deliver higher quality, etc - because the giant companies out there will always outspend you on ads and so on…
Best wishes
I don’t think we get anymore qualified as a brand than we are. I personally designed every item sold, including the backpacks. We don’t do private label or white label sales, it’s a fair place for a business to start but we passed that a long time ago. We are a small brand, mostly due to the products being very industry specific. While we are small, we are very successful (accidentally if I might add). That is where the problem lies, when this launched I had no idea it would become the beast that it is today. So the right steps weren’t taken when it comes to identity. Now it’s time to take those steps before we’re another 10 years into the game.
Spending 5, 10, or 20k on a professional isn’t the issue, but one professional or a team of 5 won’t give me the same feedback that 20-100 people from the general public on Reddit will give me. This is valuable feedback, all of it. There is no shame in seeking free advice, opinions and experience from others.
The problem is you equate all feedback as valued feedback. There are plenty of people in these forums that know nothing about branding and marketing, but post as if they do. You don’t need a marketing firm to do what you want to do. Change the logo and move on.
Opinions from well educated individuals were not the only opinions requested. Hence the mention of “the general public”. I received plenty of valuable feedback from a variety of people.
So odd the fascination or determination to insist that “you don’t have a brand”. Regardless of what you feel I have or don’t have, it doesn’t have much weight on or against the brands success. This was one of the many reasons why no name was mentioned here. Thanks for the input.
Just change the logo my friend. No one is buying your product because of the recognition they get from the logo. You see huge retailers with recognizable products even has the offer styles without their logo to encourage additional sales.
If you’re that concerned about it, put an extra page on your website or expand on your about us / mission statement and talk about this future branding.

Many answers already, that I guess you don’t think we’re good enough?
All you want to do is change a logo - not even the name….
I think you’re drastically overthinking this - you’re a small company - are people buying your product “for the logo” at all - very likely - NO
This will be similar to sports… when the team changes colors or locations or so on - some fans buy all the new stuff - some fans buy up all the old stuff because they don’t like the new stuff, and some just walk away since the old thing they loved no longer exists…

Engage a creative agency with expertise in brand. They are the experts and can provide the best advice as well as a communications strategy for the change.
If you’re not big enough to hire professionals, you’re drastically overthinking the situation.
We will be hiring a brand and marketing expert that we worked with last year when this idea came to be. Feedback from the general public is what I wanted to seek first.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! We have made the decision to just modernize the current logo.
