  • What’s your branding like? If you have a great system with a unique identity (logo) that matches the customer experience, you could also get some merchandise printed with it (crew sweatshirts, nice t-shirts, totes, “dad” hats are all popular with the brunch crowd. It’s an extra income stream and—if you have it designed well so folks want to wear it—a great billboard outside the cafe.

If you think your brand might be lacking, DM me.

Unless you can prove sales funding may be difficult—the area is over saturated. You can try a credit card but as a young person your interest is going to be 25% APR (current average) or much higher. So if you plan on carrying a balance, a small business loan may be better. I agree with trying your local credit union, but they will still probably want collateral.

  • Here’s a question to think hard about:

If you plan on starting a business and gaining clients…is it going to help or hurt your perception if potential leads see that you didn’t finish (or assumed you couldnt finish) college? Could this potentially effect the trust you’ll need for finding customers? Yes.

College is there to teach theory and concepts (foundational skills) more than software and specifics. The latter are easier to learn online.

Not directly related, but do you currently allow dogs in the taproom? Only asking because once you add food, many states revoke that ability and it could effect some sales. Probably not as much as you’d gain from adding food, but something to think about.

A local brewery near us instead partnered with a pizza shop across the street, which solved both issues.
