Hello, i’m looking for some advice on where to find a technical co-founder. I’m very much in the beginning stages of my startup and have the initial concept and want to finish my MVP to fully validate my idea. I know that YC has said that the best people to start a startup with are people you have known for a which, like school/college or university friends. But! if you don’t have anyone in mind that would be a great fit within your own network, where have others gone to find cofounders? I have heard stories of cold contacting people on Linkedin and also YC’s co-founder matching. I would love heard other people stories and advice. My startup is in the PropTech space. Also, I reside in Australia. Thanks!

I think there is no such thing as looking for a cofounder, is like to look for a girlfriend. Its better if you hire a person and you make the product with him. It will be a bad pace to build, but you will also learn a lot about the product

Well, I dont really know how is your financial health, but senior developers charge a high amount, so if you don’t have this kind of money, you will need to hire a junior, and he dont have a lot of experience building products. But is great for his carrer as a developer, you dont have to spend a lot of money and the product can be developed. But you will need to be very rigorous on the criteria to select this junior.

The analogy of finding a girlfriend or dating a girl for a few months then get married is what I’m hearing a lot and it makes sense. Being co founders is like a marriage and the startup is kind of your child.

Yeah, i guess thats the right analogy, because there are many things that need to match. Your perfect co founder is not the same as mine. Just read the beginning of Steve Jobs book, and he says very similar things

Didnt liked the book itself, but the part that he partners with Wozniak might be insightful
