So I’ve started making websites, and the niche that I’ve picked is fitness, and mainly fitness coaches. Started using linkedin, it’s been 2 weeks since I joined linkedin, tried to get clients but haven’t been able to close even 1. I know few people who are fitness coaches, made a website for them for free. I told one of them on linkedin that there was a issue on their site, they were like yeah I’ll fix it. I made a design for them and sent, saying hey take a look this might help, they were like yeah I’ll fix the issue. That’s it. Do I need to change the niche, or these trainers are not willing to pay cause they are happy with in person training. I don’t understand, many experts on here. Kindly let me know what should I try.
You’ve been at it for 2 weeks. Give yourself time.
Also, approaching people with a website telling them things are broken is such a negative way to go about the sale.
Well it wasn’t like I just said hey its bad, it’s not going to work. It was a bit better than that, their website is really bad and If they’d understand in the first place they won’t have a bad one. So I’m starting to feel that personal trainers aren’t really the ones who need a website, if they do, they haven’t come across my radar at the moment. And I’ve done on and off, 2 weeks consistently this time.
I know a guy with a gym that brings in about a million in revenue his site is incredibly basic but it doesnt matter because its all about his relationships in person and the community. Web design doesnt matter much for locally based services beyond contact forms.
So most of them won’t be willing to pay for a site altogether then?
I mean even gold gym has a pretty basic website
Don’t want to disregard you in any way, but personal trainers might not be the niche for web development. It usually is going to be a one time thing when you create them a website and that’s it. Usually this business goes through Instagram or other social platforms, since it’s important for them to show real life examples and happy clients.
A use of a webpage should offer some benefit other than being only informational. Maybe a use of a booking calendar, but even then, the benefits in this case might not get you much things to work on or upkeep on the site, thus not going to be worth your time too much to reach out to personal trainers.
Just my opinion, if you believe it’s worth your time, go ahead and do it! There still most probably are services that focus on coaches and trainers, but might be a tough industry to keep afloat.
According to IBISWorld, U.S. web design industry has market size $11.0 billon.
There are over 182,000 web design businesses in U.S.
This implies a fair share is $60,400 ($11.0 bil / 182K).
In my industry, fair share is over $500K. Downside is cost of entry is quite high.
Whereas in your industry there a great many participants mostly due to low cost of entry.
If you want to stand out in a very crowded marketplace, you need to create and establish a brand image.
This isn’t going to be easy with 182K competitors.
If you want to do battle with every Tom, Dick, and Harry that claims they can design websites, my advice is to find a mentor.
An expert willing to help you refine business model, get published, make introductions, etc.
What’s your industry? Could you give some niches where I can get started? I can probably send my designs and you can tell if it’s good enough to beat the competition or no
Same boat as you, run an agency. Would like to have a look on your designs
