I’m shocked at this year compared to the last 2-3 years. My city is crippled with inflation on groceries and rent… I’ve even had customers ask for refunds to put towards their bills!

The holiday shopper’s behavior is changing. We are seeing shoppers waiting until later in the season to try and capitalize on deals from overstocked inventory. People are buying down in general. You got to give them a cheaper option before your competitors does

I have a client that does laser treatments. What they do is holiday events that they host every year along with maybe one event every 2 or 3 months. They offer exclusive pricing at these events and also give bulk discounts for consecutive treatments, along with giveaways and raffle prizes and free drinks. But we hit pretty hard in both direct mail, email marketing, blog, writing for SEO and also socials for these events. Last I heard from them, they got over a 10x return on their advertising spend

Yep. My family just cut out gifts period. Like let’s spend our money on getting things we know we need / like vs blowing money on crap that another person won’t use/like. Just always felt like such a huge waste. Now we save money & time!

Also, deals aren’t really deals. Consumers have caught on to the tactics used to mask what are effectively the same or higher prices, or lower quality products.

I’m not sure why businesses have an expectation of people continuing their purchasing behavior or even increasing it when the value has worsened.

Customers are realizing the enshittification of Black Friday, and because they are so connected these days they learn about actual deals real soon. The rest is easier disregarded.
