I helped my gf turn her passion into a small business as a side hustle but it’s been difficult getting sales and any traffic to the site. We’ve done instagram and facebook ads but not much luck. Any ideas and tips would be welcome. Website - “www.thehappycandlecollective.com”. Thehappycandlecollective on all social media platforms, give us a follow :)

Of course, you have sent all of your friends and family invites to like/follow your social media pages? I’d recommend doing some street markets to get the word out locally, which really helps to build your social media presence and build a fan base. Getting the product into local gift shops will also help. All labeling of course will have your web address and social information. Websites are great, but really hard to get started if you don’t also have some kind of in-person experience for customers. Finally, there’s the product. I know that neutrals, white and black have been in vogue for a while. But color grabs people’s attention. Deep, warm colors. I’m old so I’ve been over the pastel/white/black thing for several years now. I personally am feeling starved for color as I’m shopping for household decor. Everything in shops and on the web is devoid of color. Try it in your product as well as on the web site. Be bold! Good luck!

Welcome to the party pal. Businesses spend billions of dollars to get attention and new clients. You are selling molded candles, dont expect anyone to care. Make the product more desirable and expect a large percentage of gross to go to marketing.

I’m guessing you have little to no marketing budget? If so, that makes the answer a little easier.

Invest time in learning digital marketing.

Learn what SEO is and how it works, learn how to do PPC ads on google and Facebook. It’s not something you’ll learn in minutes. So have realistic expectations, don’t take shortcuts (cough fiverr cough).

Some stuff you can do while you’re learning:

    • attend local craft shows or farmers market.
    • make and post content on social media- all social media. (how we make our candles, experimenting with new smells, how we choose our scents, etc). Make videos, reels, blog posts, etc.
    • post on Etsy and eBay (while learning SEO you’ll figure out how to write postings for this)

If you do have a budget: Google/FB Ads, but be prepared to hire a professional.

I like this infographic and it might be helpful for your girlfriend. She has some of this stuff already, but I think a good headline and value proposition will be helpful. Something about why we should buy candles from her, specifically. Also if she can get any reviews from whoever she has sold to, even friends and family, she can put those somewhere to show some selling history and happy customers. https://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/31097/12-critical-elements-every-homepage-must-have-infographic.aspx
