I’m letting go of an employee this week, and it’s making me feel terrible. I’m wracked with guilty and full of empathy.
I’m still letting them go, but any advise on how to not feel so emotionally guilty for firing someone?

If you can afford it and they’re just a poor fit rather than some kind of malicious monster, pay out any unused sick or vacation time and maybe even a small severance on top of that. Buy them a little more time to plan their next steps. It both eases the guilt and also is less harmful to the morale of your other employees.
Only if they sign a separation agreement.
