I don’t know where else to ask this and it’s outside of CS hours for square.

I have a square terminal, I lost the charger. Square doesn’t seem to sell replacement chargers, but my terminal wont charge on any other charger.

It doesn’t even try. I’ve tried everything from the cheap usb-c cables to the expensive ones. Samsung, apple, belkin, etc, plugged into my computer, into the wall, into the 12v in my truck. The cables all work fine, but the terminal just won’t charge on them.

So what chargers work for everyone else?

My terminal is dead and I need a good working charger for it by Friday.

If only you had chosen a reputable and local processing company. Then you’d have a rep in town who would up the phone and immediately drop off a replacement cord or terminal for you. Now you are stuck screwing around with Square CS or charger roulette.

Small businesses rightfully support shopping local, but they don’t always think about shopping local for their own vendors. Maybe this experience will change your mind.

Hope you get what you need on time.

Let’s knock you off your high horse for a second here mkay.

You know nothing of my business and your comment doesn’t add any value here. The other people who very kindly commented here cleared it up within minutes- I needed a stronger power cable- which I got as soon as Best Buy opened, so I’m not stuck anywhere.

My business is not intended to fully support me. It is what’s considered a hobby business. That means it is only intended to support my hobby and nothing more.

I only need a way to process card transactions a MAXIMUM of 2 days a month at conventions. The venues charge an arm and a leg for power and internet(some venues charge upwards of $250 each)- which the most reputable local processing company has said is required to use their hardware. Most sales at these conventions are cash, not card.

The most reputable local processing company has higher processing fees AND a monthly fee on top of that. The fees plus the cost of internet and power at the venues comes out to more than I process in card transactions per month. My square terminal runs on one charge all day and can use the hotspot from my phone (and can run in offline mode too). Square eats under 3% of my card transactions and ONLY my card transactions, but the monthly fees plus internet and power at the venues for the hardware the local processing companies supply would eat 20% of ALL transactions- only 10% of transactions at these conventions have been card.

That’s just not worth it. It might be for someone who uses the hardware daily in a store, but it’s not worth it in a hobby business.

On top of that, the most reputable local processing company rep I spoke with told me they would not overnight replacement hardware if it stopped working out of state- unless I paid for overnight early morning shipping(around $200 for the weight of it), the full price of the hardware because they couldn’t look at it before replacing it(average of $2k for what they have), and a convenience fee to have them rush over to Fedex. Square, on the other hand, my terminal quit working the day before a convention while I was adding inventory. I called square and within minutes they gave me a coupon code for amazon to order a free replacement with same day delivery.

You probably need to use a PD charger (power delivery). If you have android USB C chargers, use ones that phones have “fast charging” or USB c chargers for laptops. The key here is that the wattage is too low on the phone chargers you’re using. I can charge my square terminals slowly with 10w chargers, the standard 5w from a computer won’t do. Shoot for 18w or above to use less power than the charging rate. Good luck!

I left it plugged into a wall outlet with an 18w cord (it’s completely dead) overnight and it didn’t even get to 1%, but I ordered a 60w for a laptop to pick up in the morning.

Any 45W or higher USB-C should work. For the other chargers you have tried, have they been at least 45W?

Are you certain your electrical outlet is working?

The outlets are all definitely working, I checked the exact cords and outlets with my phone and it charged just fine.

But they’re all around 20w, so that must be the problem.

I found a 60w charger I can pick up in the morning, it’s meant for laptops that use USB-C to charge, but I’ll give that a try.
