Today marks the day I’ve been emotionally broken down. I’ve been selling online for more than 3 years and during those times my husband never really supported my businesses online aside from the obligatory car drive to the post office to drop off packages.

I’ve always been envious of other people having such supportive families but now I think I know why my husband just doesn’t support me as much.

It’s because my art, the products I put my heart, soul, and passion into is shitty.

Its not much of a question or educational material but to whoever reads this. If you’re running a small business and you have a great support system then I encourage you to value and cherish them.

I have good support and I am thankful. Although sometimes it’s hard to see that maybe your products are shitty. We get emotionally tied to our business and products. The first time my wife gave hard criticism it was difficult to hear but then I strived to work harder.

Get a new husband. I’m not being funny. You have an entire life in front of you and if he’s that dense, you can upgrade.

My lady sends me voice mails telling me shes proud of me for what I do. THAT is the support system you need.

Maybe listen to him. People are used to products from Apple, Amazon and global apparel brands. Your heart and soul is worthless tbh, is it a good value or not?

If he is not actively saying it to be mean, then they might in fact not be good? Sometimes my wife says my videos or photos are shit too, never to hurt me though.

I once had an idea for an app filled with menus from local restaurants. I told my friend about it and said that if it got popular maybe I can hire drivers to make deliveries.

I was told the idea is stupid and will never make money because people don’t want to pay more to get their takeout delivered.

Granted - even if they said it was a genius idea I don’t know that I would have taken action - but I remember that conversation and throw it in that persons face whenever he orders on Grubhub.

Point is - you’re making sales and peoples opinions are trash.

I’m sorry but uh, do you sell? Like do people buy your products? Because it’s ok if your husband doesn’t have the same taste you and your customers do…

Your husband was a bit of a jerk.

You also didn’t mention gross sales revenue - if after 3 years it’s not what it would be working a job, its time to go back to the drawing board.

I imagine he’s been building resentment over whatever it is you do for some reason.

Anyone else see that episode of King of Queens where Carrie is unemployed and starts making custom phone cases for $50 a pop? Lol.

So I’m going to take a more neutral stance on this one because this is written more like r/OffMyChest.

    What did he actually say?

I’m my experience sometimes people hear different things than what the person intended to communicate. There is a big difference between constructive criticism and outright trashing your work.

Is your business profitable? Are you making money or a least breaking even? This is important because it’s quite common for people to get caught up in a business and throw good money after bad. This can be a judgement call but is your business negatively impacting family finances?

    Can we see your products?

Also she mentioned being tired. Is your romantic life suffering?

It could be extremely upsetting to have a non existent romantic life on top of spending time and money in an non profitable business

I can totally relate to OP. I have a small business too. My partner is supportive of what I do and occasionally help me pack our orders. There is one time he critisize my product packaging. I find that hurtful. But then again, I took it as a positive criticism and try to do better. So, the moral of the story is to take any criticism as a challenge for you to improve on your product in your business. Don’t take it to heart, even if it’s your family.
