Saw a post today about a girl being a “pet psychic” who is apparently super successful. Wondered what other examples are out there.

A little town in my area has a real ink on paper newspaper business. It publishes weekly with maybe a couple thousand in circulation. The guy doing it seems thrilled to death with it. I bought a small ad in it and made several hundred in sales.
I guess sometimes it’s mostly about the execution.
Small local newspaper is still a desirable thing if done well.
That’s pretty cool, actually.
Haha this is pretty funny. A friend and I explored trying to merge the newsletter workflow and into a delivered print based paper to people. The market we found was there was a growing number of people who wanted to focus on disconnecting from their phone and the endless scrolling of news so the idea to give them consumable content to unwind and remove the charged headlines to get interactions using LLMs was feasible but never ended up pursuing.
Although less popular and in less abundance than they once were local print newspapers are still a thing here in my country, there’s definitely at least 1 paid newspaper that is released daily here and perhaps a weekend one too (also paid).
Is your local one a paid or free one?
Sometimes these free ones can make a killing by allowing local businesses to advertise or collect leads or offer discount coupons which in turn brings in business through their doors, it can probably be quite lucrative if you keep overheads and staff low.
The one I’m referring to is paid. There are some free “trader” type papers around too.
My town local newspaper - actually does this for 3 additional neighboring towns. Allows him to a have 2 editors and 2 sales people. Good business but they work hard. pay is crap for the editors so that turns over regularly.
I mean, how much does it cost to actually print a newspaper?
Do you know how long he’s been in business? We had one in our town, too, but it only lasted a few years and suddenly stopped. Could’ve been the market or personal decision idk.
Too many businesses stop because the owner does not actually do the work but pays employees to do it. Even working small biz owners think they will get rich or stop. A biz like this is a side gig and should supplement other income streams.
We have a guy where I live who cleans trash cans. He has a specialized trailer that flips the can upside down and pressure washes it.
I looked into this. There is a real first mover advantage for this. I’m a member of a facebook group for owners in this space. Lots of people selling units as its a lot of upfront work. The key isn’t the work (its the marketing to get the jobs).
I would pay for this, to be honest.
My local garbage company does it free; they come to you and swap a new unit. No idea why people pay for this stuff when you can get it free.
Must be unique to your area as I’ve never heard of it being free.
