I started a small business back in February and it’s too much for me to keep up with. I work full time and want to go back to school full time as well. It’s a small pop up business that sells artisan foods at farmers markets and other outdoor events. We have been moderately successful. I’m looking to find the cheaper options to list a business for sale but was wondering if anyone had any experience selling or buying a small business.

Is it worth it to partner with someone and have them keep 90% and you get 10%? They do the work but can call you for advice/information etc? Passive income while you go to school and work. Better than nothing and you already know the biz.

Your business has no real value most likely. It’s less than a year old.

I always recommend to reach out to competitors. They’ll sometimes buy companies. You could also reach out to other vendors who you see at the farmers markets who might want to expand.

Believe it or not, you could try craigslist. Just be very sure about who you meet and where you meet them - ideally inside a bank.

I also like the other guy’s idea about pitching it to another local business… which could be done via CL, FB, nextdoor, cold call, email, in person, direct mail, etc.

I would reach out to other local businesses that want to add your business as a bolt on to there’s. As long as you have regular cash flow you can get your business valued and sold. I sold my first company for 6-figures at 18

Your post does not have enough information, but I don’t really want to get into the details.

But want to point out a statement that people who understand small business make sometimes when they consider no buying a business.

Are you selling a business or are you selling a job?

Because if you were selling a business, cit would be able to run itself profitably without you there working it day in and day out. If all of the profits in the business is essentially what you are making normally in a job, then it’s like having a job with more risk and responsibility.

    Sold my smb on Craigslist.

Yours is a bit of a tough sell though since it sounds like you are the only one working in the business.

So it’s basically just selling a job.

If you can hold off, I would hire someone to work the market, then sell the business to a competitor
