My family’s business has recently started employing young people who split their work hours strategically between 2 or 3 businesses (one shop, one cafe, one bar). Since ours is a cafe, I feel like this is not a good idea because being a barista requires a lot of attention. But, I can see how this helps the employees. I’m wondering if any of you have positive or negative experiences with jobsharing? I’m open minded.
That’s employee sharing. Job sharing is when two or more people work part time to fill a full time position
We don’t have sharing across shifts, we actually share with seasonal business that has opposite seasons to ours. In our off season they can drop to 40% or 0% and make up the other hours at the other job. The work is fairly similar, but the vibe is different - theirs is more chatty, ours is introverted. The workers definitely know which business vibes with them more but don’t seem to mind the switch up for 3-4 months
My local cafe does this. They have several sister companies around town. Bars and cafes.
