I need to share a recent situation that’s affecting my small business. We got a 4/5 review, not for the rating itself, BUT BECAUSE THE REVIEWER NEVER GIVES 5 STARS!.She articulated her review with the following; “It’s just in general I don’t give 5’s.(Unfortunately, this subreddit does not allow picture posts, so I cannot share the conversation. You can see the conversation clicking on the link in the comments and here also: https://www.reddit.com/user/FailKindly2456/comments/17swu8j/we_got_45_stars_because_i_dont_give_5_stars/ )

Our journey is one of passion and hard work. We aim for a 5-star experience, but this review, driven by a no-5-stars policy, hurts our efforts. I respect everyone’s right to rate, but this impacts our reputation and makes it hard to attract new customers.I’m not seeking pityDid you ever have similar experiences?

I review books on Amazon and other sites from time to time. I rarely give a book 5 stars unless it is truly outstanding. My average review is probably 3.5.

I can’t see how a four star review hurts your business.

I had a girl last week shove her phone with yelp open into my face, and said “you will do whatever I say look at how many reviews I’ve left.

Well I don’t play that game, so I kicked her out.

    She left us 1 star.

    I responded to the review

“Please come back and join us! Happy hour is Monday-Friday open to 6:30”

Sorry this happened OP, but don’t let a 4 star get you down.

I encourage you to not worry about it too much. From a customer’s perspective I can tell you that I do not even look at 5 star reviews. Some 5 star reviews are fraudulent anyway. What I want to know about are the 1 and 2 star reviews and what was the reason given for those reviews.

I cannot tell you how many times someone wrote a review of a product and the reason for the low rating had nothing to do with the product or the seller. Maybe they were unhappy because the product got delivered on Tuesday instead of Monday. If that is their complaint then their opinion is meaningless and their review is meaningless.

If the 1 & 2 star reviews turn up nothing bad then I move on to look at the 3 & 4 star reviews.

The truth is, if I were a potential customer of yours and I looked at your reviews and all I saw were 5 star reviews I would assume you are gaming the system and most if not all of them are fraudulent. Or you are having any reviews which are less than 5 stars deleted.
