So before I started my business I worked for my old boss for 10 years. He would always talk about being careful about stuff “because OSHA could show up” like they were some type of boogeyman. In those 10 years I never once saw anyone from any type of regulatory body.
So was my boss just being paranoid? What are the odds someone from OSHA actually would be around? have you ever dealt with them?
At least in my state (TN), you can get a free TOSHA inspector from the state to come by and audit everything. Super helpful and they don’t charge - you pay for it already with your taxes.
I would hope other states do the same. This doesn’t equal ‘forever compliance’ though, you still have to be mindful and compliant with everything they find, but it’s a good peace of mind.
Source - I work for the state, and my wife had it done at her medical practice.
Federal Osha does this as well https://www.osha.gov/consultation
I had this done, so worth it. The program I did, when you complete it, you are immune to fines for a year.
