  • You don’t need to spend anywhere close to that.

I use Google Cloud Platform (appengine) and Digital Ocean for the database. Together they come to like $20 a month (17 of that goes to digital ocean). And hooked up a domain I purchased on Bluehost. You can probably find managed database even cheaper than that, and cut it down to 10 a month or so (everything combined).

You shouldn’t be spending a lost on infra till you have traffic to justify it. Nor need to spend a lot.

GCP is similar to AWS or Heroku. These platforms are comparable and enough to get you started and till you have decent traffic. After that you can always migrate to some enterprise type of package for handling large number of hits.

Somewhere MVPs became: a static landing page with a newsletter signup form and a “coming soon” lie.

I hope this kind of MVP dies.

But i don’t believe an actual MVP should look like it was built by a high-schooler. It’s about delivering just enough functionally to add value. You can write decent CSS for it in a day or two, especially with tools like Tailwind and Bootstrap (or even rolling your own, really).

It’s incredibly uphill to learn enough programming to build something yourself and launch it at a commercial level. Just don’t. If you wanna pick up tech skills, you’re looking at a long journey of learning basics, doing small projects, working with a team, preferably working with experts and learning from them before you’re anywhere near competent to build something substantial. Even after a decade of being in tech, most devs don’t reach the level where they can do it without a team around them.

It’s not at all like “Learn to sell” or “Learn to do taxes”.

I’d say just focus on the non tech aspects and find someone to do write software.

  • Why should your doordash order be unhealthy? Especially in the bay area. Lots of salads, and greek food that comes with a mix of protein, veggies and light carbs, lots of soups…

Cooking also doesn’t need to take too long. Learn some quick recipes. An oven, an air fryer and an instant pot, you’re golden.

Stock the fridge with fruit cups, low-fat string-cheese and hummus packs from Trader Joes.
