I am a reseller that sells products for less than retail. because I’m able to catch price errors etc. My primary source is eBay, offerup, and other marketplaces. My friend and I argued about this saying why can’t you resell a brand new product for retail price. I said that that wouldn’t make sense unless it’s a product that is in high demand and always out of stock then yes makes sense to sell it for retail or more than retail but for other stuff. If I catch price errors I would have to sell for less than the retail price but still make a profit. For example, I bought a price error pencil for 10 cents which it supposed to be 2 dollars. I buy a bunch of it then later resell it for a dollar. I wouldn’t want to sell it for 2 dollars because why buy a retail price pencil off of eBay where they can go on Amazon to buy it for 2 dollars? His response was at the end of the day there is competition so why not sell it for retail? Am I missing something here? I just want to be educated and understand the resell and marketing strats

You’re 100% right. No question. You can’t compete with the bigger guys, unless you sell much cheaper, and if you buy for pennies, then sell cheap.

No one knows how much you bought your product for. Price it based on how competitive you want to be, not what you paid for it. Retail 101.
