This is my 2nd employee. The first one I am going to have to fire.

It’s due to a lack of effort. Phones and music are allowed due to the job being monotonous. Every time I pass by their office they quickly get off the phone.

I can tell when someone is trying or not with this specific job. Also, I have asked and stated to ask me any questions if needed. Expectations are clear.

This is the 5th day they are working for me. Do I need documentation?

What does your handbook say about phone use?

I have a 3 strikes your out policy on everything. First time I make sure you know it’s a problem. The second time I remind you I told you already its a probelm and the next time I catch you, you are fired.

I also make them sign stating they have been warned twice and the next time they are fired.

You are lucky, not all employers give you 3 chances. I was trained to the verbal warning, written warning system. At my last job, you got no warning, and I was simply laid off due to profits in the quarter were down.

This was not in my department, or something I did. Simply profits were down, I had been there 9 months, your salary is the highest, you are terminated. The top managers even wrote me a glowing recommendation. Some companies, just don’t know how to treat employees, or retain them.
