I have been looking over PEO options for our remotely working SaaS business with under 10 multi-state employees and have been leaning towards Justworks/Insperity. What are their pros and cons? I am mostly looking for good benefits and access to the back office experts if things go tits up as it does sometimes when you’re working with PEOs.

    Disclaimer: I work at Justworks.

Depending on what your needs are, Justworks or Insperity could be a better fit.

Justworks is focused more on small businesses of your size. We have transparent pricing, 24/7 customer service for both administrators and employees, and intuitive technology/mobile app. We don’t charge any onboarding fees or extras fees (outside of benefits and workers comp).

Insperity’s customer service model has a team of specialists that you’ll get in touch with for various topics such as client liason, payroll specialist, HR service manager, performance specialist, and safety consultant. You have a bunch of channels to turn to, but it can be confusing to get to the right person. Through Justworks, support is responsible for finding the answer you need if they can’t answer it themselves, rather than redirecting you.

Insperity is one of the most expensive PEOs on the market, and charges extras like percentage of payroll. You’ll have to do some math to figure out the total admin fee.

They have more integrations for things like Applicant tracking, Performance management, and HRIS. We integrate with Quickbooks, Xero, and Greenhouse. Otherwise, consider Justworks to take care of everything within the employee life-cycle from onboarding to offboarding.

Insperity health insurance rates can be very competitive since they have a different method of underwriting vs. other PEOs.

Net promoter score is a good method to evaluate the quality of each service. It is a measure of whether customers would recommend using the product based on a scale of -100 to 100. 0 is passive.

Lots of info, but hope this helps! I’m sure you’re already in touch with each of us, but DM me if you have other questions.

Insperity charges a flat rate admin fee per employee per month. This is determined by size of company. Only fee that is a percentage of payroll is the upfront onboarding fee (negotiable) :) Insperity rep here, and highly encourage you to dig deeply into both to discover what makes the most sense for you!
