Figured I’d throw this out and see if anyone had ideas we haven’t considered. My wife had a hobby turn into a food business over the past 5 years, farm market expanded to local wholesale. She has 2 clients that are larger local grocery services, both do well and pay the core bills but she isn’t really able to easily market those services as we have not much control there.
She’s reached out to several smaller retail locations the past year, some smaller but a few larger (still single store). Each time she comes in, things start well with sales for a month or so then slow. I know that is expected, the products get great reviews and have sold over 30k units. We both feel in store sampling is needed regular but impossible to find someone reliable to work just a few times a month and she doesnt have that time on a regular basis.
Any ideas on keeping sales from dropping after the new product feel is gone? We made up a few shelf talkers but didnt notice much impact and have to constantly replace. Have decent graphic design and all looks very professional. Have tried some social media ads but saw no real impact. I’m more of an ops/it/finance guy and not so much marketing.
What causes the initial surge in business?
Is the product shelf location changed?
Do you provide your own display or does it sit on the customer’s shelf?
If this is a baked product, is it displayed in the bakery area?
I missed a few, no change in locations. It mainly sits on the customer shelving. In one store behind doors and in another an open display for the larger, we had some smaller marketing made up for the flavors and also that we are local.
