I’ve ordered from Facebook marketplace and the lady selling is sending it to me using dhl. I was willing to pay shipping and have already payed $134 in protection fees and now I have to pay $322 for a custom charge? I don’t have that kind of money and this is absolutely ridiculous. The original cost of the item was $32 and now I’m supposed to pay almost $500 for a $32 item?? It’s not even being transported outside of the US. It’s just going from Utah to Maryland. I need to know if I’m getting this money back and how I’ll be getting it back considering I’ve been PayPaling the person selling this to me for the shipping costs.
cancel and dispute through paypal. it may take a few weeks to get your money back.
She probably sent u a fake DHL link…and u did the rest urself. Thats my guess
Scam is my bet
Just to clarify. They want you to pay customs on a domestic shipment?
You are getting scammed. You should dispute with the PayPal and stop talking with this person
If it’s a large item and needs a pallet and lift gate your not overpaying. Not saying what ya bought leaves this pretty wide open.
You are being scammed.
You don’t pay customs domestically… but you already paid for protection…. So hopefully you caught on eventually.
You’re being scammed. There’s no such thing as “protection fees”, and custom charges don’t happen on a domestic shipment. Post your experience to r/scams and you’ll get confirmation. Sadly, it’s a very, very common thing, and you’re probably not communicating with a lady in Maryland. It’s more likely a dude in Nigeria or India posing as a woman in the US.
Whatever you do, stop giving them money, and initiate a chargeback with Paypal and/or your credit card company. Report the account to Facebook, block them, and move on.
You’re being scammed
Please tell me you used Paypal Goods & Services payments and not friends and family. If so, you could contest the charge(s).
What does this have to do with small business?
What is a “protection fee?” Is that insurance? Why would you pay $134 for a $32 item?
Not one single bit of this makes any sense.
If you’re using email for communication, you can check their IP address to see if they’re where they say they are.
TBH, you should always use email to make purchases for this very reason.
