Hey everyone! I recently started a small betta hobby business. I import high quality betta fish from Thailand and sell them in the US. I’m able to ship country-wide, aside from Hawaii and Alaska. I’m trying to grow my business and try and get more customers. I’ve been advertising on Instagram and TikTok, and I’m gaining a decent following, but I’m trying to find other ways to get my name out there. I don’t have a whole lot of capital, I recently lost my job prior to starting my business. Any ideas or suggestions would really help!

You’re on the right track with Instagram and TikTok. Try sharing engaging content, like betta care tips or a peek into your import process. It’s all about storytelling and making your fish stars of the show.

Also, consider starting a blog on betta care and aquarium maintenance. This not only positions you as a niche expert but also helps with SEO. Forums and Facebook groups are goldmines for connecting with enthusiasts. Share your knowledge there, and you’ll build a community around your brand. For your socials, have you checked out Boost App Social? It’s a neat tool for spicing up your content.

Lastly, a referral program could be a nifty way to get your current customers to bring in friends. Just some thoughts, good luck with your finned friends!

How do you sell these fish? Through your own website? A web store hosted on a third-party marketplace?

If you’re selling through your website, where is it ranking? Is it mobile responsive, does everything work as intended?

Who’s your target/ideal customer? Are you shipping directly to customers or to other shops?

Where do people interested in this sort of fish first go to (Youtube, Reddit, Facebook, etc?)

What kind of content are you creating on TikTok and Instagram? Can it be repurposed on other platforms?

Answering these questions would be a good place to start.

Hi! Thanks so much for the response!

I have my own website I’ve been using and it is mobile compatible and has seemingly been working fine on mobile.

My target group is really anyone who wants a betta! I’ve mostly been engaging with others in the fish keeping hobby so far, a few beginners have reached out to ask some advice.

I think most people interested in the fish come from tiktok, there are a few subs on here for fish keeping and betta keeping as well.

I’ve been following some trends but mostly posting videos of my fish and merch products. I’m going to venture into showing more of upkeep on my personal fish tanks as well too for educational purposes and to show that anyone can have a betta!
