I hope you’re all doing well! I’m currently in the early stages of planning a web application and I’m exploring the option of working with offshore developers. My co-founder and I are green in this area and we’ve heard both success stories and cautionary tales about this, so I wanted to reach out to the community for some advice.
If you’ve had experience working with offshore developers for web application development, I’d love to hear about your journey. What companies or freelancers did you work with? How was the communication process? Were there any challenges, and if so, how did you overcome them? What costs should I expect to pay for these services? Most importantly, did you achieve the results you were looking for?
Your insights will be incredibly valuable as I navigate through the process of selecting the right team for my project. Feel free to share any tips, recommendations, or lessons learned along the way.
Thanks in advance for your help! Looking forward to hearing your stories and advice.
I’ve been working with offshore developers for almost 10 years, I’ve gone through many teams across different continents. The quickest way to reliability is often to hire via large dev firms; although you do pay a premium. With time and experience you’ll be able to curate your own teams.
The most important advice I would give you is:
you need to know what you want, and be able to differentiate between your long term product vision and your minimum viable product.
Whoever you decide to prospect for services, ask for a portfolio and/or references that you can actually speak to.
Being able to effectively communicate matters. To put it more bluntly, a large language barrier between you and the team can make or break the project. Key leaders of the team need to be fluent in English in my opinion. Alternatively, if you are fluent in their language then that works too lol
Upwork is a decent platform to find offshore devs, very legitimate and controlled environment.
After much trial and error, I found a team I work with regularly with on several concurrent projects; web and mobile for all sorts of industries.
I can connect you with them if you’d like to discuss your project needs and see if it’s a good fit for you.
This is wonderful advice, thank you. I’d greatly appreciate an introduction to speak with them. I’ll dm you.
