Can somebody help me to find where with an entrepreneurial mindset, I can get hired?

EDIT: Don’t point out the point is to work for yourself.

I’m currently studying a MSc Psychology which I’m interested in applying in business. I’m a part-time digital marketer who doesn’t have a degree, I have a biology and agricultural science teaching background. I speak English, Irish and advanced Spanish. I work well in a fast-paced or stimulating environment and at problem-solving - as a very general description.

I’m not here to big myself up, just wanting to give brief details in hopes some of you can help me to refine the search for what types of companies hire for mindset & approach rather than by degrees etc. Feel like US is good for that.

I’m from Ireland and want to move to the US ideally.

Open to any location in Ireland, UK, Europe and Us though.

I am very entrepreneurial but keep getting pulled into corporate world. I tell myself that I am finding companies that value my “entrepreneurial” mindset. A similar mindset is a “growth” mindset. Maybe search for jobs that want a “growth” mindset. You will see that much more often.

What I mean by applying an entrepreneurial mindset in a corporate world is the ability to think creatively and bring innovative ideas to life. Not just settling on status quo. Often with limited or no added resources. This could mean a new approach to marketing, launching a new channel, product positioning to a new segment, finding opportunity gaps in SEO, new verticals, etc.

I am constantly amazed at how companies sort of get complacent and just keep the gears moving but truly lack that “entrepreneurial” mindset to see a new customer need and bring a new initiative to life.

Unfortunately, I don’t see a lot of companies that actually want to hire for that. Some like Google used to encourage intra-praneurship.Most will see you as a flight risk.

Give the “growth mindset” search a try. Might have more luck.

Do you want to do it in the psychology field? If so, you probably know the big academic conferences. Industry (companies) go there to hire. They may be exhibitors or there’s a career section.

I like this post and feel like everyone who is active in this subreddit should do one - it could create amazing connections.

One thing I would say though is that a lot of employers don’t like hiring people with an entrepreneurial spirit as they are hard to manage and a risk to their business.

Have you tried launching your own businesses already?

Reminds me of this post on Ask a Manager where a college student is asking why no one will hire them as a visionary. “I would rather be somewhat of a consultant or an ideas man…I feel as if no one is understanding what I am capable of.”

I see where you’re getting that from.

I think it’s important to make assumptions. 😀
