I posted here because of the outcome of the situation and how I am involved. It doesn’t quite sound small business related but due to my involvement I swear it is. I desperately need opinions so I’m including many details. How long would you expect the cleaner to be there? What kind of standard expectations would you have? How long would do you think it would take you if you were completing the service?

2,900 sq ft newly built, very nice home. Full upstairs, full main level, only very large bathroom in basement w/ get ready/vanity area attached else. 3 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, office, loft area, 2 mudrooms. A dog that sheds and 2 young kids, fairly dirty house.

Request was to do a STANDARD CLEAN; what you’d typically expect, entire kitchen, bathrooms, dust everything floor to ceiling, baseboards, vacuuming and mopping.

ADDITIONALLY a “deep clean” that included: Complete reorganization of office area reorganization of young boys room & master bedroom All interior windows + glass All light switches, outlets, door handles and fixtures Deep scrub of large master shower and grout work All sliding glass doors and tracks Fronts of all cupboards and inside pullout trash cupboard (which we all know how dirty those get)

When I say reorganization, I mean lots of clutter and items to be put away or found a spot for or made a spot for. Going through personal items, drawers, and bins to organize. I mean you can only imagine what a messy young boys room would look like. Most dresser type furniture and two very large desks were mostly covered in items to be put somewhere. The request was made clear that there was a trust given to do this.

How long would you expect the one cleaner to be there? What kind of standard expectations would you have? How long would do you think it would take you if you were completing the service?

I own a cleaning company. They are quoting around 7-8 man hours. Newly built doesn’t matter as much as how thorough and well has the place been cleaned. Given the size and the animals and the extra (organizing), and the price, I’m going to assume, either the place is really clean already or she way under charged.

I would at least double that price for a deep cleaning.

Organizers aren’t cleaners, and vice versa. If this “deep clean” took too long or wasn’t to your liking you hired the wrong people for the job.

I would expect $360 to be the price of a deep clean for like a studio apartment or maybe a small 1 bedroom apartment. Absolutely not 2,900 sq ft, absolutely no basement, absolutely no reorganization.

This question also makes me wonder if you get your house cleaned regularly (ie, biweekly) if not, it was probably way too dirty to expect organization at all in the initial session, let alone for that price.
