Hey everyone. Happy Holiday’s. I was curious to hear any stories about small business owners that have depression on here.

I am a small business owner that has an online service business primarily helping other small local business owners in their cities get more traffic and customers. I also have depression and it’s not due to any situation, it’s just there.

For those of you that don’t have depression, I explain it other like a migraine, severe headache, or even a very bad upset stomach from eating something bad. You can either wait for it to pass (leaving you useless for a day or even days) or you can push through and try your hardest to make it work. (and just deal)

My depression can actually wipe me out. But because I have clients, I just push through to keep them successful.

I was just curious if there are any other small business owners here that that have depression, anxiety, or other mental illnesses? I know for me, it makes normal everyday business situations, that much harder. But I love what I do so I just push through.

Would love to hear any of your stories or how it impacts you. Thanks and I’m wishing you all good success as we get closer to the end of the year. May next year be even better :)

I’m closing my business which has employees and started a new one where I’m the only person providing the service. It’s still in transition but I have been faced with the reality of not having employee support to carry out the day-to-day commitments. I tend to shut down and everything moves very slow for sometimes two weeks +/-. It’s a pain in the ass really.

After a recent episode I took a wonderful class that 1) helped me feel normal and 2) provided caring tools and a framework to utilize when you feel it coming or are going through it. This class helped me put things into a refreshing and normalizing perspective.

She uses a maze as a navigating tool and shares differernt check points and resources as your going in, going through and coming out. The purpose or goal is to shorten the cycle and have more resources and understanding of what is happening. It’s like being prepared and having all the tools for a depression episode. I relate it to having a lovingly prepared emergency kit and a gentle compass when shit hits the fan.

Unsure. It’s the first I found that resonated with me.

I have tried several different modalities and have been in therapy for over ten years, both psychotherapy and somatic therapy. I also take really great care of myself by working out 3-5 times a week, great sleep routine, eat well, meditate, sober living etc.

Mental health challenges run in my family so I’m fairly aware of my own conditioning being born into this family structure.

That being said here is a link to their site. It’s the recording so it might not be as exciting. Maybe they will offer it again in the future. I felt normal and empowered afterwards.
