Hi all, I created a quick side project mainly as a way to self-educate on the bubble.io platform. I previously used Adalo and found bubble to be more flexible, although the UX is a bit more confusing.
The side project is a golf trip itinerary generator “powered” by AI. It makes a simple call to openAI that takes a few user inputs (location and travel dates) and combines it with a prompt that gets passed to openAI. The output is the itinerary.
Let me know what you think! www.golftripsplanner.com. Very basic functionality for now - planning to add more functionality and improve the UX as I continue to learn the platform. I’m hoping to also use this as an avenue to learn more about AI and LLMs so that I can possibly tweak and tune a model that is much more targeted for golf and travel. TIA
nice work on the project! it’s great to see how you’re using bubble.io to create something practical and useful. the AI aspect sounds really interesting, and i’m looking forward to seeing how you expand the functionality and improve the UX. keep up the good work!
Thank you! I think enhancing the AI model is what will really make this stand out, but of course will be the hardest part for me to learn.
The website is very clear in what it does. Visually, it’s lacking color, green seems to be the only color there.
I typed in a location (Porto, Portugal) and dates. The “We’re gathering your trip details, please be patient…” has been spinning already for many minutes and there is no indication whether this thing is ever going to complete or is it even doing anything.
After a wait that was way too long, the page finally showed my itinerary which started off like:
"Sure! Here’s a golf trip itinerary for Porto, Portugal from November 30, 2023, to November 30, 2023:
Day 1:
- Arrival in Porto, Portugal
- Check-in at your hotel
- Rest and relax
- Explore the city of Porto, visit the historic center, and enjoy the local cuisine and culture
Day 2:
- Breakfast at the hotel
- Play golf at Oporto Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in Portugal
- Enjoy lunch at the golf club’s restaurant
- Explore the nearby attractions, such as the Foz do Douro beach and the Douro River
- Dinner at a local restaurant in Porto"
If you look carefully, you already notice one rather obvious problem: I said I will be in Porto for one day. Yet, this thing produced me an itinerary for 8 days.
And the itinerary isn’t that amazing. For example, the 8th day of my 1 day golf trip in Porto is: "Day 8:
- Breakfast at the hotel"
That’s it. Have a breakfast. With all due respect, I think I might have been able to figure out myself that I should eat breakfast at a hotel.
Also, some of the golf related recommendations aren’t that great, either. For example, during day 4 of my one day golf trip to Porto, the tool is recommending me to go to Amarante Golf Club.
Okay, Amarante Golf Club is 52 kilometers away from Porto. It’s about a 13 hour walk. How am I supposed to go there? The tool doesn’t say anything about that.
Why does this thing recommend me to go to 52 kilometers away to Amarante Golf Club yet it doesn’t mention anything about Citygolf Porto which is within the city?
On the other hand, I just asked ChatGPT “What are the best places to play golf in Porto, Portugal?” and it told me this:
"Oporto Golf Club: This is one of the oldest golf courses in Portugal and is located in Espinho, a short distance from Porto. It has a challenging layout and beautiful surroundings.
Estela Golf Club: Situated near Póvoa de Varzim, this links-style course is known for its seaside location and is considered one of the top golf courses in Portugal.
Citygolf Porto: Located within the city of Porto, this is a smaller golf facility that offers a convenient option for those looking to play in the city.
Quinta do Fojo: This course is located in Maia, just outside Porto. It’s known for its well-maintained fairways and challenging design."
As this stands right now, I don’t see any benefits for using this tool instead of just asking ChatGPT.
If you want your tool to have benefits over ChatGPT, you need to work on this a lot. You could start by adding distance and pricing related information that ChatGPT doesn’t have.
Thank you for the feedback!
I’m not sure why it returned multiple days when you only entered one. I tried to replicate the same issue but it only returned one day as expected. I’ll keep looking into it!
You’re absolutely right, there’s not much value in using this vs. chatgpt directly at the moment. My idea is to eventually build out a smarter system that can assist in booking tee times, transportation, and hotels. I also plan to implement Google maps that will help visualize your trip. That will add more value than just spitting out a chatgpt response. This is hopefully just the beginning!
I built this out in just a couple of days so I’m still learning as I go. I hope to make this more robust. Thanks again!
