Recently had an employee take screen shots of my financial spreadsheets and share them on social media. I have no idea the motivation behind this and I was completely caught off guard. Obviously that individual is fired. But I’m wondering how does the law view this? Is this criminal? Can I file a law suit if that person continues sharing these? This is in Wisconsin if that matters.

I don’t think anybody would care or know what they were looking at… no actual account numbers… report the posts and move on. People do stupid things…

You might be able to sue in civil court but you would have to show damages due to the distribution of confidential company information. The legal fees would probably outweigh any damages you could collect.

You should 100% add non-disclosure language to your employment contracts if you don’t already.

My contracts spell out what is private info, and that private info must be kept private.
