I want to open my own camera company, I am an Indian, I have no knowledge about camera and I have no engineering degree as well, but I am fully determined to pursue this. I have no idea whom to approach. I am totally at 0 right now, what should I do? I think there is huge potential in Indian market. I am not talking about CCTV cameras here, I’m talking about dslr, mirror less etc.
Market Validation: compared to the current market, you need to ask — what will make my product different? For example: Canon: great glass & ecosystem. Sony — power video. Nikon — photography heavy etc.
If you can find a way to enter the market with little resources, little time spent producing an MVP but leverage with a strong value proposition/ unique selling point, MAYBE you could do well. But realistically? You’ll need a lot of fire power.
But hey! I didn’t say you can’t do it. I believe in your dream OP, just go out and dominate the world 🤌🏽
Why do you think this is a good market? Globally, DSLR and mirrorless camera sales are down and will probably continue to go down as phone cameras get better and people don’t feel the need for them.

Surely this is trolling…
Start with a problem and not with a product. Evaluate ideas and its corresponded market, competitor and feasibility. Hardware development is expensive so you need a cheap MVP to prove the concept and look for funding.
Small margins over hardware, plus costs with IP, production, distribution and marketing make it a very difficult scenario to start a business. Even great ideas or products can fail when reach the market.
I recommend watching YC videos, even if its more software focused, they give good advice on the subject

Start with researching everything there is to know about cameras, the industry, key players.
Buy cheap cameras, break them apart, watch videos , read manuals, figure out how it works…… there’s no substitute for that slug work.
Now once you understand the technology, become an obsessive nerd about the market. By doing so, you’ll surely find a gap you can fill depending on your resources and just overall ability to will it into existence.
It’ll be hard and painful but trust me, you won’t regret it. Even if it does or doesnt work out
Well, you can go to school.
What exactly in cameras - selling offline/online/both or any sort of development? - You won’t need to be hypertechnical in the first case.
