Money it is always money. If someone does good pay them more. Sure if you want to give them a gift basket at Christmas, do it too , but NOT instead of money.
Depends on what type of employee/business. We have scoreboards for teams members to see how they are doing on a daily goals/who is on top. Also best/exceptional performance of previous day is mentioned during the morning briefing. You can run small competitions also, create internal levels with level up being something special.
