For context, I just recently decided to get started with my small business (registering my trade name, getting an EIN, creating a website, etc.). My business is a small home decor store, and I have been on the waitlist to rent a little space (60 sqft) inside a marketplace so I can sell there (instead of leasing an actual retail store). Well, yesterday was my birthday, and in the morning I received an email from the marketplace that they were opening a second location in my state, not too far from me. And I secured a spot! That was the only thing that was stopping me from proceeding with my business and I desperately wanted a space. Yesterday turned into the best birthday ever and I am so excited I finally get to start.
Thanks for reading :)
Happy Birthday and congrats!
Home decor can be finicky. I run one with 3 locations, ~1800sq ft each.
Pay close attention to what is selling, and what’s not. Don’t be afraid to mark things down to get rid of them, especially in your small space display room comes at a premium. Know your customer base, and who is coming in the door. Don’t be afraid to try higher prices items if the customers are there. Just because you’d never spend $200 on a throw pillow doesn’t mean your customer wouldn’t.
