Is that even legal? I guess it would be a 1099 for that amount. I didn’t ask why. I don’t plan to do it but I’m not sure what reason to give other than I don’t want to make more work for myself.

If someone wants to file exempt, you can’t just refuse it. It’s not illegal, but you refusing to not to do it because you want to be lazy is illegal. They still have to pay FICA taxes, but employees can file exempt on the state and federal level if they don’t expect to have any tax liability. And no, that is not a 1099. I highly suggest attending a small business course before you find yourself facing legal action from employees that know the law.

Also, why do y’all seek advice from Reddit instead of professional advice? I will never understand that. We could be telling you a boat load of crap. All the information you are asking for can be found on the IRS website as well as from your state code.

Have you tried to get a professional to respond to you? I’ve been looking for a bookkeeper for 6 months. Also need a new cpa because she ignores questions like this

Lol, no I’ve never tried. But I have a Bachelors degree in Accounting and have been preparing taxes for years. Just have them update their withholding forms & take out the FICA taxes on their check.
