our last three month sales are steady but nothing to brag about. Still up compared to last year. But I feel overall slowing down OCT. How is your business doing?
Commercial truck (semi truck) mechanic. Definitely been slowing all year. Lots of folks very reluctant to fix their equipment correctly, loads are slow and low-paying for a good portion of drivers. They’re literally asking for miracles and then crying about prices. Employer getting scared of paying techs, first year in ten that I’ve been regularly scheduled less than 40 hrs a week. Not looking great, and these trucks are the backbone of the economy
I was doing about $1K/week for a couple of months after transitioning to my business full time. Now down to about $50/month. Feel fortunate that you have an established small business- I left my engineering job after 10yrs making 130k+ to pursue my dream of growing my small business and srsly think about hanging myself every day. good luck.
If you are seriously thinking about suicide get some help, it’s not worth it.
What type of business do you have?
Brewery, up 5% YOY. You can tell its starting to shift a bit, I’ve been bracing for impact, saving, spending less.
We’ve positioned ourselves very nicely in the market, we have reasonable prices for the industry.
Business is down this year for first time in 20 years. It feels like operating during financial collapse to be honest. This “strong economy” feels tighter than ever. Everyone is being crushed from all sides and there are very little surpluses going on
First time in years I didn’t have the next year planned before it started. Had a lucky break with a consulting job that will make up the difference but I was sweating there for a second.
This year has been slower with longer wait times for getting paid. It feels like the beginning of the 2010-2014 years for my business which was tough going.
I have a machine shop/welding shop. We also make hydraulic hoses. 3 months ago we were 8 weeks out. As of the beginning of OCT we can get projects in usually as soon as they come and there is a lot of downtime. It’s been great because we have caught up on so much but the bank account is starting to reflect that.
Going to take more from the fed… some things are slowing some things just fine. Fed has to stay committed as they were about increasing money supply a few years ago. Don’t fold to political pressure
Marketing at an agency here. Everything is down on every client from $25 accessories to high end cosmetic surgery. It’s a bloodbath and clients are pissed they aren’t seeing late covid record breaking profits.
Experimental marketing/creative fabrication shop - busiest last few months we’ve ever had and no sign of slowing down.
Food truck. Declining most of summer but since September sales are at a low. It’s frustrating
My business is up 5% over last year.
Retail brick and mortar.
Wholesale bakery, very small specialized production. Sales are up about 25% from last year and holding. Almost all of my customers are ordering more. I think coffee shops still move a lot of product these days.
Funny thing about repair and rebuild (general construction) - when things are good everyone finds the time to fix everything they need fixed or upgraded. When things are bad they need stuff fixed rather than buy new.
Been on a steady decline since June. October was better than September though and the holiday season is prime time for my industry so I assume that will be fine. After new years though, who knows? Definitely been feeling it over the past few months.
