Hello everyone, me and a friend started an interior painting company, we both own 50% of our LLC. We are planning to have 1099 intipendent contractors as workers, since we are doing this more as a hobby, small business. Whenever I try to get a workers comp l, even talking by phone with agents, they keep telling that they can’t send me a quote at the time. I know that WC is not required if the LLC doesn’t have actual employees, but in NYC most of buildings ask for it to get inside and do the job. I would like to have a workers comp that can cover my 1099 workers, so they don’t need to get it by their own. If some of you experienced this, how did you get the WC insurance? And another very difficult question, how much you pay? Considering that I’m planning to have just a couple of 1099s and having an annual revenue around 50k.

I am not sure why they can’t offer you quotes but, you should find a good agent that can walk you through the brutal truths of how much it costs and whether you must have it. Because one thing I do know is that if you have to have WC and Disability, and don’t buy it, New York will find out and will fine you. possibly big time…
