We are finally looking to start running paid ads either google or Social Media. What do you guys think is a good budget ? Also any advice on questions to ask when deciding which company or person to go with ?

It doesn’t seem you have a goal or strategy in mind. They need to help you figure out what’s best for your business, Google Ads or Meta. Ideally, a combination of both.

As for the budget, that’s an unanswerable question without knowing more about your business. The answer is literally “it depends” at this point. B2C companies usually spend 5-10% of their revenue on marketing, sometimes more.

Make sure you’re in control of your accounts and not the agency/freelancer you’ll be working with.

I would outsource this first and hire a 3rd party vendor. I generally don’t like the premium markup that you would pay them for the long run but it should help you identify the CPC in your industry. This will help you identify what you can expect when bringing the work in house. Also, per the interview process, you’ll want someone who is familiar with the platform and has proven results based on keyword generation etc. Google ads is fantastic but to get the most out of it, you’re going to need someone with talent - don’t trust the account managers to help you get the results you’re looking for.

Based on your post history, it looks like you’re going to be marketing for online personal training. I suspect that this is going to be pretty competitive since people can perform the work from anywhere.
