It can really depend on your business, the hours it is open, whether you have employees, etc. Sometimes we do just put up a sign that we’re closed for the day because school is closed, or closed for an hour because of an appointment. But we’re retail, so there aren’t customer appointments to work around.
Our sales were within $5 of last year. Which is just weird.
I worked for the government previously. It was very firm and consistent that there was no more paid training once you gave notice. And sometimes you had to pay them back for recent training. You’ll need that money to find and recruit a replacement.
That varies. Most local stores in my town do not have a website. And those with websites do not include inventory. Except for the chains.
I think a lot of it is regional. We’re brick and mortar retail and having our best year ever, but our local economy is still strong. Negative unemployment. That’s just luck.
Our sales aren’t really down, but we have far more people browsing but not buying than we have in the past. So it looks busier than ever but doesn’t generate more money.
Record store. Brick & mortar only; no online selling. Not yet profitable but sales are 150% of last year’s. The biggest challenge right now is fittings. We have a lot of inventory in storage because adding shelving is so expensive. But we’re making progress.
I think some of it is age. We didn’t go into business until later in life and no one has given us any attitude or been anything but supportive. I’m kind of surprised by how often these posts are made.
