  • First, what’s the source of not having an ID? The answer to this will dramatically alter your options. If you’re in the country illegally, start by talking to the community around you - see if there’s a business who has a reputation for hiring laborers who may not have documentation. From there, save up enough to talk to an immigration lawyer and find out what options you have available to you. Also, be very, very careful you do not get mixed up in any shit.

If you are here legally / are a citizen but lost your paperwork, ID, or birth certificate, research the county you were born in and call their county clerk to ask what the process is for getting your birth certificate if you lost all of you stuff. Prepare to explain how it happened. Once you have your birth certificate you can start rebuilding the rest of your paper trail - and that’s far more valuable to do with your $100. Once you have a social security card you should be able to get a job to help build the rest of the paper trail back.

What you shouldn’t do is try to start a business with $100. Making a path for yourself to get papers has gotta be your #1 priority, and starting a business puts way too much cost and investment up front (or literally everyone would do it).
