I had a friend who wanted to start a coin counting by mail business. The customer mails the coins in a flat rate package and then you count them and in exchange the people get a gift card to a local restaurant.

Not one, but two people were accepted to my business school with physically impossible ideas. One wanted to use the pressure at the bottom of the ocean to generate electricity. That’s it. It’s high pressure and so all you do is put a hose at the bottom of the ocean plug it into a turbine and wammo you’ve got infinite free energy.

The other wanted to put turbines inside air conditioning vents not realizing that you would be guaranteed to lose energy in that equation. I actually went to the dean and told him that it’s ideas like this that are the reason people think our school is stupid. He said he agreed, but the student donated a lot of money to get into the school.

I had the air turbine idea in 8th grade! Once that was debunked, then I proposed adding a ‘floor’ of turbines to high rise buildings so they could generate their own electricity. To bad it wound make the buildings fall down. Lol…

I did see an actual prototype product at a trade show which put little turbines in your water pipes and to generate electricity for you own home.

I figured if it ever caught on then municipalities would ban them as they would be using more energy to pressurize the pipes properly.
