I had a friend who wanted to start a coin counting by mail business. The customer mails the coins in a flat rate package and then you count them and in exchange the people get a gift card to a local restaurant.

I met a guy who actually started this business and made money. Had employees. He contacted apartment complexes and got permission to pickup trash. He would charge a monthly rate to pick-up bagged trash outside apartment door 2 days a week. Toss bags in his truck and then drive across parking lot to dumpster. I was like no way. Nobody would pay that. They can walk across parking lot themself. Lol. I was wrong. So sounded dumb to me but dude makes money.

I lived in a complex where they had this. The price was built into the rent. So even if I took the 5 minutes to walk my trash to the dumpster I still had to pay for the service.

Lived in the building that had this and hallways reeked like… yup trash

Maybe it was just this building, but people would leave their trash in the hallway for days.

What I’ve found is people will pay SO MUCH for convenience. It’s insane.

I know I’m going to talk video games here for a second, but the insight to human nature applies. All the parts for a spaceship can be in a store, and cost 200M to buy and assemble. Three minutes tops typing in words and pressing ‘buy’.

Buy all the parts, assemble it, stick it on the market as prebuilt and ready? People pay 300-350M each, and I’d sell out almost as quickly as I could make it happen.

It’s nuts! People pay so much just to avoid a bit of work, and that was ON A COMPUTER where it’s not like there’s any physical activity to do! Only a few minutes saved!

Our daughter plays some game (not sure if it’s iPad or Switch) where she finds stuff then puts it in the “store” and people actually buy stuff that they can just go pick up off the ground somewhere.
