I’ll be closing a deal to start a semi-absentee model franchise in the next few months. I plan to keep my day job while getting the business off the ground. I’d love to quit my job and go all-in if I reach a point it can fully replace my current income.

Should I tell my boss I’ll be running my own business 15-20 hours per week? I worry it could impact my career if they think I’m going to jump ship in a couple years.

It will impact your career if you’re doing this and say something. They do not want the intrusive thought of you walking in any day and quitting.

If your goal is to have the franchise replace your job down the road you need to work both, and keep your mouth shut. Don’t tell coworkers, don’t tell management, shield your social media from your current job.
