Our end of year ended in July, and since then I’ve asked my accountant to prepare our end of year accounts.

It’s particularly urgent because we have a limited runway and need to know how much the government will need in taxes.

I’ve relayed the urgency but I’m still waiting, almost 3 months later.

Is this normal? Should I fire him?

I’m in the UK and they are relatively simple accounts. No more than 10 transactions a month.

As you suspect: this is, regretably, ‘normal’.

I agree with matthewlayton - if everything has already been provided via e.g. bookkeeping software already and there have been no queries sent back to you, a deadline would be wise.

I don’t think it’s right that you’ve had no visibility into your tax liability up until now, but that does seem to be standard service from most accounting practices.

By contrast, we run monthy reports that forecast your upcoming tax liability right from month 1. By month 12 that forecast is usually within pence of the actual tax bill we finally calculate (unless our end of year processes can dig up a few more savings, that is - a quality problem to have 😁)
