And does anybody do it today without software?
I know it might sound like a weird question but I’m currently shopping for a new payroll service and I can’t stop thinking about it. I have absolutely no idea how or what to do when it comes to the mechanics of taking out FICA, taxes, etc… sending those payments to the irs just seems like a huge pain.
Obviously bigger companies can hire someone full time to handle payroll but how did the little guys do it?
I’m 50, my first real job after college was Human Resources. We figured up pay totals on excel and did all the math for benefits and deductions ourselves. It was extremely time consuming.
Well yound whipper snapper… we used a thing called a ledger… magical thing, almostt as magic as a ball point pen…
you balances those ledgers and boom… felt the rush like you never feel in Excel or online. Was like crack… but crack ink on paper. GEEEE WHIZ… I love these questions about how we used a pen and paper to do stuff… or how things were invented for compututers…
