I’m currently bootstrapping my startup with my cofounder. For context my startup is in the security and authentication space and we plan to sell to financial service businesses. It’s early and we both still have our day jobs. My day job will pay for pretty much any cert & training I want.

So my question is: should I pursue a certification like Security+? Is it actually helpful in terms of filling in gaps in my knowledge + will potential buyers and investors look more favorably on a startup that has a founder with such a credential?

Follow up question: Is security+ the right credential or should I be looking at something else?

A security+ will not help. For selling to financial services you’d want like a CISSP, CISA, CISM or the like. If it’s a specialized service you’re selling, get a cert in something like that, ie: OSCP/E for offensive security.
