Restaurant silent non-operating partnership inquiry

How does a restaurant partnership work? As far as percentage of profit for operating partner versus silent non operating partners? Or invest amount for type of partner. As how does a person in NYC invest in a restaurant in LA and not ever be there in LA to run the restaurant etc.
