As title says, struggling to find the right people for this, and I fear it’ll break us.

We’re a female hair accessories brand (headed by my sister & I) and she’s struggling to find the right design team and I’m struggling to find the right business team.

We have about 6 people in our studio at a given time - some interns, some seamstresses, and some on packaging/procurement.

I need people that will really share the vision, show initiative, and well, accept a average to below average salary, but as we’re a brand (i feel brands often get overlooked as businesses), I’ve not had any encounters where I’ve been like - damn you’d be a good fit.

That’s not to say I don’t know the ‘right person’ - I’ve tried to hire a good friend several times, and sometimes I’ll have a chance encounter with someone at an established job who I’d love to bring on board but we’re limited by cashflow and lack the ability to pay well or match their salaries.

So where did you meet your go-getters? People that have made your business what it is. The forces to be reckoned with.

Job postings by us through our socials are yet to really bring in real talent and even if it does, it’s not really the talent I need (design ability for example).

Use Freelancers or agencies. For example I run an Agency we provided digital marketing services to a fashion start up (you’ve probably heard of them but I won’t name them) we got their monthly revenue from £10,000/month to £100,000+ a month in six months with Google Ads, SEO and Meta Ads. We charged £1,200/month and after 8 months we broke off the co-operation. So for less than one employee they got a full team!

best to invest in the team - since you’d be on a budget, you can hire remote qualified people - who can be less expensive to hire

Either go with people you know who are good or hire a recruiter and get to know more people.

Regardless good people come with high prices so figure out how to afford them.
