Hi everyone, I’d love to get some insight on this. I’ve recently created my own trading card game with original art, mechanics and theme. I’ve printed it out and have playtested it numerous times with different demographics and everyone says they thoroughly enjoyed playing it. I’m very happy with how it’s turned out, so I want to try and popularize it.

I’ve looked into ways of doing this and I landed on doing a Kickstarter for the release of an online version of the game. I know all of the hard work that goes into doing a crowdfunding campaign and I understand that it won’t be easy, but I am willing to put the time in. There is just one issue though: I know nothing about game development, let alone online game development.

So, at this point, would it be best to try and team up with someone who does know game development and share the business with them? The game is going to need updates throughout its lifetime so I definitely need someone to be permanently onboard with this project. Alternatively, I could pay someone half of the total sum of money upfront to help me with this project and pay them the latter half once the Kickstarter campaign has reached its goal (which it hopefully will). Once the game is monetized and has an active player base I will be able to hire people, rather than have them be a co-owner.

I currently have a full-time job, so I don’t think I have the time to self-teach on game development and make a worthwhile product, to be honest. However, I do believe I have the relevant skills to provide significant value to the business; just in case anyone wanted to say I’m just an ideas guy haha.

    You have to look for a developer that is not a random with knolegde about online games and servers, its not going to be cheap but better than hire a hobbyst that can make a poor work that cant be scalated because the code sucks

    Development of a game ain’t simple bro. This isn’t a simple ask of any single game developer usually(without huge time investment). Especially if it is going to have online components. Best to do an offline version then use any money there to hire some developers if you really believe in your project.
