I run a modestly successful small gardening business. It took me a year to really get it going properly. For context im in my 30s and have worked in really demanding jobs to get into a position to start something.

Ever since I went full-time my sibling has had this attitude like I just won the lottery and wont share. Other people have also started acting like im driving around in a RollsRoyce with a monocle, I don’t really get it.

I give my sibling left over gardening supplies and i’ve sub contracted another friend who lost their job. Trying to share my success when I can. Whats with the hostility? Have other people experienced this kind of thing?

This always makes me think of the song “we hate it when our friends become successful.”

Not everyone my dear sir. Finding those folks who celebrate your success because they have seen you struggle is the key to building a solid foundation. There are plenty of haters, the key is to use their hate as your motivation while building up that circle of supporters.

Unless they think you’re worthy, i.e. smarter, hard-working, whatever. Truth is, none of us are that much smarter than another, but the people you’re close to know personally the dumb stuff you’ve done, so they see an idiot with some success and get jealous and angry about how unfair it is, especially if they’ve wanted or tried to do their own thing in the past

A man finds a genie in a bottle. The genie says, “I will grant you one wish, but whatever I give you, I must give two to your neighbor.” The man replies, “okay, cut off my hand”

nd i’ve sub contracted another friend who lost their job. Trying to

That and sibling rivalry never really goes away. Just do your thing and they will all adjust their thinking and accept that you have a successful business.

Don’t you worry about those crabs climbing out of that bucket?

Oh no - these are floccinaucinihilipilificating crabs, if one starts climbing up the others pull him back down
