Is being offered 23% of a company an insult as a partner in a start up? I am responsible for building and designing the entire web app, coding the Frontend, backend, and digitizing all requirements for our proof of concept. My partner found me on LinkedIn. Its his idea, he will be running business functions, marketing, client onboarding, and he has a few real clients to do a trial run with. We’ve been working together for two months in a trial period and now we want to write up contract. How do I value myself?! ……This is my first start up !
If u read the comments majority said 23% is very generous and it’s not just good but very good. Many Cofounders just get 5-10% and founding engineers get 1-2%
This is the reason I always say irrespective of Cofounders role, both should invest the money so there will be no equity bias
Founding engineers gets 2% where? In your fantasy world. Unless they are getting a big salary nobody accepts 2%, and OP is not getting salary…
I have seen many who have been Founding Engineers working full time at their jobs and contributing their free time working with startups and getting around 1-3% equity only
Sure you did
