Hey Everyone,

I recently launched my web design agency and decided to kick off with cold calling. I’ve reached out to about 100 businesses, particularly painters in Toronto with basic websites, offering a no upfront cost deal at $25 a month for hosting and maintenance for my first 20 clients. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen much traction. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong or if my offer needs tweaking? I only do static sites so basically no e-commerce would that be limiting myself?

Cold calling is probably the most draining way to advertise but it can definitely get you business. However it seems like you have 2 major issues at play here. The first is that you simply aren’t doing the amount of volume necessary. 100 cold calls is nothing, 100 cold calls a day and now you’ll start seeing traction. The second is your offer, it needs to be so good that people feel stupid for saying no. That means you need to increase the value or better communicate what that value is. Side note, an offer that’s too cheap sounds suspicious. 25/month for something like maintaining a website just seems off. What exactly does that entail? Are they able to schedule clients, create email campaigns, etc or is it mearly a landing pg that you are making. You’d probably do better having an upfront cost for the website creation and then have those kinds of services available as upsells. Then you can create recurring revenue by maintaining the site’s for them. Which you could probably do around $150/month based on some things I’ve seen. People would love to not have that headache for $150/month. Remember it might be second nature to you but most businesses owners have no idea about the inner working of a website, they just want it to work.

You see I wanted to offer the 25 a month because I thought it was so good you would feel stupid saying no. Maybe I can mention that comes with design development hosting 24/7 support and a certain amount of edits per month. So are you saying the price is so low it actually makes it look sketchy, what if I go up to a 100 a month for all that?
