Hi everyone! I’ve just filed my first LLC & am planning to open a vintage boutique in my city- I’m completely new to owning a legitimate business of my own. I thought this would be a great question to ask as I know I’ll be making many mistakes in my first year of business.
Please feel free to comment your favorite mistake!
Take money from people who want to give it to you. Yes, discounts for friends, family, and neighbors is nice, but people want to give you money - take it from them.
This is so interesting! I entered a shop looking for some coffee mugs and the shopkeeper was actively telling me how much each of the cups I chose didn’t fit my needs… I was ready to buy but he talked me out of it instead of just taking my money 🤷♂️
Similarly, do not put unnecessary roadblocks in place when people try to give you money. Don’t say “We don’t take cash” when someone is trying to give you a fistful of it. Don’t make it difficult for people to transfer money to you in any of the formats which have been popular and standard for the last 50 years; some of your customers will be that old and older.
This is more relatable than some people think , I give customers quotes and they feel I’ve done a good enough job to give me more than I quoted for , I make sure the client knows they overpaid but they always seem to be happy.
