Hi,

My company makes subscription software for businesses in the healthcare industry. Most of our customers are small-medium sized medical practices.

I was wondering whether it’s better to have a contact us / schedule a demo CTA on our landing page or a signup button?

When we had an open signup, we noticed that all the customers gave up and we had to reach out to them for a demo before they started using/paying.

The two main reasons I can think of why customers are giving up without help is: 1) maybe the product needs some explaining? 2) we have a manual setup process that takes about 1 hour. All of our leads who converted paid us 2x monthly subscription cost to do this step for them as a service.

What do you think? With this industry + customer behavior pattern, does it not make sense to have open signup? What can I expect to happen if I replace signup with a contact us section?

Thanks a ton!

Good to ask the question but, as others have said:

    1. You can do both, they serve different user states

    2. You’ve got some customers who didn’t use what you had before but did sign up in the end - ASK THEM! Give them a discounted month or whatever for participating in a user journey mapping session with what you had and what you might try as an alternative.

    3. Definitely A/B test or, if you have both versions, track conversion and follow up to get qual data on the WHY.

    4. While I’m speculating, the causes of giving up may well be the following rather than to do with the copy/button/option: needing more info (ie the demo) or the user not being authorised to make that spending decision.
